Privacy policy
1. Who we are
MyLift operates a ride hailing, bike delivery and vehicle hire platform in Southern Africa. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean MyLift and the entity that contracts with you in your country of use. We are the controller of the personal information described below.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what the service needs in order to function:
- Account details — your name, mobile number, email address and the password you set.
- Verification data — one-time codes sent to your phone or email to confirm that the account is yours.
- Trip and delivery data — pickup and drop-off locations, addresses, timestamps, fare estimates, the status of the request and any cancellation reason you give.
- Package details — for deliveries, the package type, description, weight, dimensions and any handling instructions you supply.
- Driver and vehicle records — if you register as a driver or list a vehicle: your driving licence number and photographs of it, registration plate, vehicle make, model, year, colour and vehicle photographs.
- Payment method — the payment method selected for a trip. MyLift does not currently process online payments and does not collect or store card numbers or mobile money account details.
- Ratings and feedback — the score and comments left after a completed trip.
- Technical data — device type, app version, IP address and log records needed to operate and secure the service.
3. Location information
The app uses location data to place you on the map, match you with nearby drivers or couriers, estimate fares and record where a trip began and ended. Drivers share location while they are online so that riders can be matched and trips can be tracked. You can withdraw location permission in your device settings, but core features will not work without it.
4. Why we use your information
- To create and secure your account and confirm that you are who you say you are.
- To match requests with drivers and couriers, and to calculate and display fares.
- To record trip fares. Online payment processing is not active at this time; fares are settled directly between rider and driver.
- To verify driver licences and vehicle documents before a driver is allowed to accept work.
- To investigate complaints, accidents, fraud and misuse of the platform.
- To provide customer support and respond to messages you send us.
- To meet legal, tax and regulatory obligations in the countries where we operate.
5. What other people can see
When a trip is arranged, the driver and the rider are shown only what is needed to complete it: first name, the agreed pickup and drop-off, the fare and a contact number for the duration of the job. Drivers do not receive your email address, your payment details or your trip history. Riders do not receive a driver's home address or identity documents.
6. Who we share information with
We do not share your personal information with other companies or organisations for their own purposes. We do not sell, rent or trade your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
The only disclosures we make are:
- Hosting and infrastructure providers, who store data on our behalf under contract and have no independent right to use it.
- Law enforcement or regulators, only where we are legally compelled to disclose or where disclosure is necessary to investigate a serious incident.
7. How long we keep it
Account information is kept while your account is open. Trip, delivery and payment records are retained for as long as required by tax and transport regulations in your country, and for the period during which a dispute could still be raised. Driver licence and vehicle documents are kept for the duration of the driver relationship and for a limited period afterwards. When a retention period ends, records are deleted or irreversibly anonymised.
8. How we protect it
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes and are never readable by our staff. Access to production data is restricted to named personnel who need it for support, verification or investigation, and that access is logged.
9. Your rights
Subject to the data protection law that applies in your country, you may ask us to:
- Confirm what personal information we hold about you and provide a copy.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Delete your account and the information tied to it, where we are not required to keep it. You can delete your account directly from within the app at any time (Settings → Delete Account), or by contacting us.
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, a particular use of your information.
- Withdraw a permission you previously gave, such as access to your location.
Write to us using the details in section 13. We will respond within the period set by the law that applies to you, and we may ask you to verify your identity before we act.
10. Children
MyLift is not intended for people under 18. We do not knowingly create accounts for children. If you believe a child has registered, contact us and we will close the account and remove the information.
11. Transfers outside your country
Some of our service providers operate infrastructure outside the countries where MyLift runs. Where information is transferred across a border, we require the receiving party to protect it under contractual terms consistent with the standard applied in your home country, and we transfer only what is necessary to run the service.
12. Cookies and the website
This website uses only the storage needed to make it work: a session cookie to protect forms against cross-site request forgery, and a local preference that remembers the country you selected. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies on this site.
13. Contact and complaints
Questions about this policy, or a request about your information, can be sent to info@mylift.online or through the contact form. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country.
14. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change we will update the effective date above and, where the change affects how we use information you have already given us, notify you in the app before it takes effect.
